Event Brief
Tech.Ed is the definitive technical education conference for Microsoft technology. Delegates get the opportunity to hear about new technologies presented by Microsoft local staff as well as speakers from the Microsoft head office in Redmond, Seattle. The event focuses on being an interactive experience where delegates are encouraged to ask questions, meet speakers and try out first-hand the latest software and products from both Microsoft and their Partners. Tech.Ed 2004 also hosted an open day on first night to encourage people that had not attended Tech.Ed previously to come along and see what was on offer.

The Challenge
This was the first time the event had been held in Canberra, and initial response to the location was not overly positive. In addition to this we were tasked with increasing attendance, despite the event being held in the middle of winter in a cold location not typically a draw card for record attendance! The technology also posed a challenge given we needed to work with the other suppliers to create the infrastructure to support an event with 400 networked computers. In addition to this the Australian event was backed onto the New Zealand event which made exceptionally smooth speaker logistics a focus.

The event was held exclusively at the National Convention Centre, Canberra over 3 1/2 days. The agenda included eight concurrent tracks, a Partner Pavilion with 32 booths, a communications network of 200 machines, a speaker one-on-one area as well as hands on labs self paced training. The event also hosted three social functions, a Welcome Reception, an Ask the Experts Dinner and the much talked about ‘Tech.Ed Party’.
